Grass Root Dishonesty

The favorite topic of conversation nowadays is the dishonesty which is rampant in our society, with special reference to the politicians. Corruption of the politicians, dishonesty in every walk of life and the state of lawlessness in the country are some of the favorite subjects of discussion.

Honesty is not a tangible or something which could be acquired overnight

Honesty is not a tangible or something which could be acquired overnight but it is basically a trait which has to be inculcated in a child as he is growing up. In these days of obsessive ambition and the desire to excel parents tend to ignore traits like integrity and honesty, as they are simply focused on ensuring that their children are ambitious and relentless in the pursuit of worldly gains.. Manipulation is taught as a valuable tool for growth and relationships are only formed based on the benefits they can provide in a material sense.

Being unethical in daily dealings

In order to make things easier is not considered a form of dishonesty but an intelligent solution to a particular problem. By bringing up our children in this manner, then expecting the society to display honesty is simply unrealistic or perhaps another form of dishonesty.

Expecting politicians to behave ethically is wishful thinking as they are a product of this environment and have not been imported from elsewhere. We live in an environment where shortcuts are preferred to systematic and meticulous execution and the main focus is on personal gain with complete indifference to the ethics of the situation and the harm it can inflict on others.

The display of dishonesty starts with the fruit vendor and stretches up to the politicians and since the powers of politicians are gigantic, so is the magnitude of their dishonesty and the extent of damage their dishonesty can lead to.

Instead of forever mourning the dishonest system it would be advisable to handle this problem from a grass root level and initiate the clean-up from our own homes, by teaching our children to speak the truth, respect the law, do complete justice to whichever assignment they undertake and make them differentiate between dishonesty and smartness. This is the only way that this menace of dishonesty can be tackled, as clearly nobody has a magic wand to create an honest society overnight.
